CinemAbruzzo Kids & Teens has reached thousands of families in Abruzzo, engaged dozens of educators and guests, and allowed participants to explore vast areas of the region through on-site visits and group screenings; but above all, it has enabled 2,574 young people to master new tools for understanding and telling stories,

The support of local partners and the many municipalities involved was crucial to the success of CinemAbruzzo Kids & Teens, as it made it possible to fund all the activities. “It wasn’t easy to manage all the input and requirements,” notes project coordinator Silvia Iarussi, “but at the same time, it allowed us to build a shared vision among schools, municipalities, and local organizations.”
CinemAbruzzo Kids & Teens and film tours of Abruzzo’s movie sets
A film tour of Abruzzo’s natural locations, including Alba Fucens, Ovindoli, Rocca di Cambio, and the Sirente-Velino National Park, where scenes from Richard Fleischer’s Yado and Federico Fellini’s La Strada were filmed. This is one of the final initiatives of the CinemAbruzzo Kids & Teens project, which involved 2,574 students aged 6 to 18 from 23 schools in 7 municipalities across Abruzzo.
CinemaAbruzzo Kids & Teens: An Educational Success in Abruzzo
Throughout the year, young people participated in creative and technical workshops on writing, film analysis, animation, mobile filmmaking, and podcasting. The students produced video essays, short films, and storyboards, some of which were created using artificial intelligence. According to Paolo Santamaria, the scientific director, cinema is a means of understanding the present, past, and future in an informed way.

“Seeing is learning,” said Bruno Munari, a pioneer of creative pedagogy, and in a world where it seems increasingly difficult to capture the attention of young people, cinema can be a powerful ally. This was demonstrated by the participants at CinemAbruzzo Kids & Teens, who surprised educators, teachers, and parents by showing interest, curiosity, and a willingness to get involved
